You can’t resolve a problem if you aren’t aware of it. When you understand what your sales story is then you can correct it. “If you have always thought that salespeople are slick and try to trick you out of your money, you will carry that story with you as you sell,” notes Rainwater. “This will hold you back when you sell to others because your potential clients will feel your hesitation, even on a subconscious level.
“When you identify the triggers that bring you back into your old story, you can take that cue to reframe your thoughts into your new story that make you feel empowered. This can take practice so don’t give up. You will need to repeat this step many times until it becomes habitual but it’s worth the work to feel confident about selling and adding value others,” remarks Rainwater.
The bottom line is when you are a business owner at some point in the business journey you will be making sales, especially if you are your sales department. You must overcome any mindset issues that you have about sales, or your business will suffer. The stories we tell ourselves matter, therefore reframing your old story should be a daily practice. Sales is the driving force for your business and if sales are lacking, you can create serious financial issues.
