Luis De La Cruz, who once received support from Arizona Friends of Foster Children as a foster child himself, is now leading the foundation as its new executive director.
“I do not pretend to have the answer, nor do I fail to acknowledge the gravity of the task,” De La Cruz said. “But I know first-hand what someone in the system is capable of achieving when a community of dedicated people and organizations come together and work to solve an impossible problem.” “I became more resourceful and creative,” he said. “I learned how to quickly harness relationships to compensate for the lack of familial and social capital, and most importantly, I learned that I didn’t want this experience to define the rest of my life, so I had to persist and do something to change it.”
