The South African Reserve Bank has hiked the repo rate by a cumulative 325 basis points [bps] this year. That’s one of the most aggressive rate-hiking cycles in recent years and comes in the face of spiking inflation.
“We’re going to have to see whether that attitude and the extent to which the banks continue to have that approach continue, or whether we go into what would be described as a more normal environment where, as a consequence of certain homeowners not being able to fulfil their obligations, repossessions start to increase.
