Cooper University Health Care and Cape Regional Health System sign an agreement that should be finalized in 2023

Cooper University Health Care in Camden plans to acquire Cape Regional Health System next year under a deal announced Wednesday that will bolster medical services in the most southern part of New Jersey.

Cooper is a $2 billion not-for-profit enterprise including the 635-bed hospital, a children’s hospital, the MD Anderson Cancer Center and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Joining forces with Cape Regional Health System in Cape May, the two hospitals will include more than 900 beds, 10,000 employees and more than 900 doctors in three physician groups.

“As it becomes more and more challenging for smaller health systems to operate independently, merging with Cooper made the most sense as we share the same commitment to the communities we serve and to providing the highest quality care to our patients,” Gilbert said.
