Lim said last month, the hawkers had brought up the issue of the lane’s poor condition near Jalan Jinjang Aman where the morning market traders set up stalls.“I have seen many elderly falling and hurting themselves when walking along this lane,” said a hawker, Fong Hong Kiew, 65.“Moreover, there are so many puddles and it might start flooding when it rains heavily. We hawkers have a tough time doing business,” he added.
At a press conference, Lim said the road resurfacing and cleaning of clogged drains would start after Chinese New Year next year.Lim said there was a need to carry out proper upgrading works on the 100m long lane rather than just doing patching work. “DBKL has not set a date for work to start. They need to discuss this with the traders as the project may take a month to complete.
“The hawkers might complain about having to stop trading for this period as this is their source of income, but there is no choice. “We need them to give way for us to do the job properly,” Lim said, adding that he hoped both DBKL and traders would come to an agreement. — By SHASMIETHA ELANGO
