Beginning in March, both retailers will either cut or shift the hours that their pharmacies operate in response to staffing shortages and waning consumer demand as the height of the Covid-19 pandemic recedes. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news. Walmart, which has pharmacies in most of its 4,600 US locations, will close them two hours earlier, at 7 pm. CVS will shift or cut hours at about 6,000 US pharmacies.
“Walmart has a strong and incredible pharmacy team, and we are making this change to not only enhance their work-life balance but also to maintain the best level of service for our customers,” a Walmart spokesperson said. “By positioning our teams in the hours where our customers say they want to visit our pharmacy, we are better able to deliver excellent customer service.” Walgreens announced last year that it was reducing hours at some of its pharmacies because of staffing shortages.
CNN do your job. Pharmacist shortage? Tell us more. CVS cares about patients? Closing stores with no warning to their patients. Ignoring the ringing phone. Record quarterly revenue and profits.
Do basic research. There is no short of pharmacists. There is a shortage of pharmacists willing to work under unsafe conditions. Rewrite this article.
Why is there a shortage?
Because everyone wants to be a journalist and work for CNN to propagate the DNC propaganda.
And it’s not just reducing hours, it is causing very long waits to get prescriptions. I left CVS a couple of years ago because of their nonsense. It’s just not a good business model.
I worked in a Pharmacy for 3 years. It's a terrible job, you're tasked with being a pharmacist, grocery store expert, insurance issue resolver, customer service, and cashier/bagger all at once. Their pay is increasingly laughable compared to the 6-7 years of education they need.
They don’t want to hire enough employees.They have to close the pharmacy for an hour so they can take their breaks and nobody to relieve them while on break.
It’s not a lack of pharmacists. It’s them refusing to work under the conditions these companies expect.

I’ve always heard Pharmacy School is REALLY hard to get into and highly competitive. Even though it pays well as a career, making it hard to access might have something to do with it.

CVS chased off all of the staff at my pharmacy and replaced them with inexperienced lower paid staff. The staff are also allowed to be rude because they know CVS needs them
