There was a time when it gave one a sense of pride whenever global news headlines started with"South Africa has/will do this or that…" knowing that whatever it was, concerned a decision made by a government we proudly, fully, embraced as ours - a government by the people for the people that made decisions for the interests of all South Africans.
Such leaders should never be concerned about the need to take away the legal insurance cover aimed at providing ordinary citizens with the prosecutorial fall-back they will need if their national criminal justice system fails them. Expecting us to change/relax any national legislation just for them to make a once-off visit is total madness. If they want to brandish their middle finger to the ICC and the rest of the world, they should do it from elsewhere, not by using us as pawns in their battles.
