The CEO of Discovery Adrian Gore, which administers SA's biggest medical scheme, has written to staff reassuring them that"little will change in the foreseeable future" despite the approval of the National Health Insurance Bill by a parliamentary committee last week.
The NHI Bill proposes a withering away of medical schemes over time as they will not be allowed to insure or reimburse members for services offered by the NHI. Medical schemes, the private healthcare sector, and opposition parties have hotly contested the clause. In a letter to staff on Monday, Gore says that he is reaching out to"provide clarity and comfort" following the approval of the bill. He wrote: Get 14 days free to read all our investigative and in-depth journalism. Thereafter you will be billed R75 per month. You can cancel anytime and if you cancel within 14 days you won't be billed.
