The Canadian energy industry is willing to partner with government and is committed to sustainable development and energy transition. But we must find some middle ground to fully seize the opportunity in front of us.
We would be better served to incentivize the production of responsibly developed Canadian resources to ensure we can maintain and grow production levels and improve our competitiveness. Canada’s energy industry has been diligently working to reduce its emissions and, beyond that, to evolve our industry in support of changing energy interests and the energy transition. This momentum must continue, but we need to accept that in the short term, domestic emissions may decrease more slowly as Canada does its part to help lower global emissions by displacing more carbon intensive energy sources currently used in other countries.
