He notes that if a player doesn’t secure a spot in the Springbok setup, it’s easy for them to join a club in another country and eventually qualify to represent that nation.

“It’s more business-like in terms of the players making decisions where they get opportunities,” De Villiers said. “I think the South African fans need to get used to that.”With World Rugby’s new eligibility laws, the impact of foreign-born players representing other countries is becoming more apparent. De Villiers believes South African supporters must adapt to seeing familiar names playing for other nations.
