Bump stocks – the attachment used by the gunman in the 2017 Las Vegas massacre to make his weapons fire rapidly – became illegal in the U.S. on Tuesday. Many thousands of the devices have been turned in or destroyed.

FILE - In this Oct. 4, 2017, file photo, a device called a "bump stock" is attached to a semi-automatic rifle at the Gun Vault store and shooting range in South Jordan, Utah. In the days and weeks leading up to the ban on bump stocks that took effect Tuesday, March 26, 2019, tens of thousands of the devices were destroyed by owners or handed over to authorities.

A nationwide ban took effect Tuesday on bump stocks, the attachment used by the gunman in the 2017 Las Vegas massacre to make his weapons fire rapidly like machine guns. Anyone in possession of a bump stock from now on can be charged with a federal offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Washington state set aside $150,000 to offer owners $150 for each device they turned in to police. Within weeks, the money had been used up.T.J. Kirgin, owner of a firearms tactical gear company in St. Peters, Missouri, said that in the weeks before the measure went into effect, he made one last sweep through his warehouse to make sure he didn’t have any more devices left.

People kill people. Not guns! Fuck the Government. Modern day Roman's!

Just like drugs you won't be able to buy them off the street especially if they come in from Mexico

cryborg

I guess the next thing that has to be banned is... elastic bands.

Why punish the many for the activity of one person. If this was followed for every murder than cars and alcohol would be illegal as well. People seem to forget that drunk drivers have killed morepeople than bump stocks.

Buying this weekend

How cute.

How do I turn in belt strap, trigger finger, shoe laces and reasonable understanding of all firearms.

Was it ever proven that bump stocks were used in the Vegas massacre? They tend to jam often.

In related news: there have been thousands of reports of bump stocks having been lost at sea. Government seen scratching their heads. Details at 11

We have 330,000,000 people in the U.S. 1 person used a bump stock to commit an atrocious crime Now the other 329,999,999 people have been punished Makes sense.

Wow. I'm surprised so many voluntarily complied. Then I read this: 'Anyone in possession of a bump stock from now on can be charged with a federal offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison'

You can have the BS and high cap mags if it'll save some lives. It doesn't affect my ability to defend me and mine or hunt or shoot for fun. They're fun to have when shooting but it's just not worth it with the the craziness going on.

If someone walks in with a bump stock to kill you, your chances of survival significantly got better.

A small step for legislation but a giant leap against lobbyists

WACK

So other then the manufacturers supply how many exactly have been turned in.

mr_jettlife

Pointless as criminals will still get these

And if this law was in infect before the Vegas shooting im sure the shooter would have turned his in. Smh. Trump was wrong to do this it infringing on peoples rights. Criminals will still have them and out gun law abiding citizens.

First the government will ban bump stocks, next they'll ban my purple barrel stabilizer and gold knockdown shield. WHEN WILL IT END?!

Good move gunlaws guncontrol

The only ones using these, criminals. Therefore, how did banning them help?

'Thousands turned in (by a single company who's inventory the feds are aware of)' '100 turned in in Washington state' 'ATF won't comment on how many sold' LMAO, there's literally hundreds of thousands in circulation then.

What a waste...

The police an military still have their fully automatic weapons so you can all breathe a big sigh of relief, especially in the black community. How else will they shoot a sleeping guy 90 times? We cant have blueisis getting their fingers tired. Yay!

1/ Not to make waves, but the people saying this was a step in the right direction most likely don’t know much about guns. This was an empty gesture to satisfy the very people I’m referring to. You can get the same functionality with a good trigger. Going to ban triggers next?

Stephen Paddock was hoping they ban all semiautomatic weapons.

Yet they’ve had about 2 years to stockpile that crap. Once purchased, never returned...even under the threat of law, cuz 2nd Amendment was written in the bible along with assault weapons. Jesus said so in Aramaic.

Allegedly destroyed, or actually destroyed ?

A very small first step in the right direction.

Now we get to see how many of these 'Law abiding gun owners' become criminals yet still exclaim their law abiding nature. 🙂

GOOD, some sanity. How to get control of those remaining ?

Estimated 200,000 to 500,000 in circulation.

Because banning guns will stop murders like banning drugs has stopped drug use.

Hey, who did this? Trump. I'm an NRA member. I'm generally not for any new gun restrictions. What I want to point out to the naysayers that say Trump and other GOP politicians are in the NRA's pocket, should note he went completely against them on this. I still support Trump.

MS13 turned in the most.

I'm shocked they were located in Boise. They were probably giving them away in their liquidation sale.

Somebody will invent something else......

Did they ever find out his motive?

This is really the bare minimum they can do

Isn’t this voluntary? And I just heard that NONE had been turned in in Nevada. None.

He didn't use a bump stock.

It's about time.

Who needs a bump stock to bump fire a weapon though?

meanwhile you can still buy a fully automatic machine gun if it was made before 1986.

Many thousands more remain out there, untraceable. Many more will be printed with 3D printers, because you can and it's easy.

Finally 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Remember when Obama allowed bump stocks to exist? I do

Ha was our brother Stephan Paddock (Abu Abdulbir Al Amriki ) may Allah accept him

Only the Law abiding Citizens turned them in. No strides were made by banning these as Criminals still have theirs. Quit taking a victory lap as you won nothing!

Hey did we ever find out the motivations behind this shooting? It seems to have quickly disappeared into the ether

There was no proof the attachment was used. Maybe try to report facts instead of fairy tales.

Only took over a year and a half!!!!!

Excellent step. Protect the people; not guns.

Trump did a good thing🥳

A great start!

Who knows how many are out there 😀

Bump stocks are now illegal. And Washington state's program to buy them back was so popular it ran out of moneyWashington's four-day bump stock buyback program was so successful state officials ran out of money. Ban fast food. Heart disease is a major killer in America. Because it tried $15 minimum wage & ran out of money to spend on buying the 1 bump stock actually bought.
