The two sides tried to negotiate a final version of the formula throughout the winter months but couldn't come to an agreement, resulting in the pricing decision going back to the panel once again.This dispute, according to FFAW-Unifor president Greg Pretty, is not just about a base price, but rather a system that is built to work against fish harvesters, plant workers and coastal communities and harvesters will continue to refuse to fish for anything less than their fair share.

Winslow noted how current quotas are at their highest since around 2005, but there are now fewer licensed crab plants and plant workers.“Less plants, workers and 7,247 less jobs, with millions of dollars in savings and salaries to companies. But this business model is terrible for harvesters.”
