Mbeki strongly supports ANC leadership

Former president Thabo Mbeki has come out strongly in support of the ANC leadership ahead of the crucial May 8 general elections.

Mbeki says he feels he can now convince voters to choose the ANC because the party shows signs of self correcting amid claims of state capture and grand corruption. Mbeki visited the ANC stand at the Rand Easter Show at Nasrec in Johannesburg. He addressed the media during what is regarded as his first public appearance for the ruling party.

Mbeki says, “The fact that we admit we have veered off the road, resulting into corruption and all that means we making a commitment to the public that we are going to deal with those matters. And therefore there is a degree of accountability of the ANC to the public, which the ANC can not run away from. So it’s not a matter of these elections on the 8th of May, the are consequences. To the commitment that the ANC makes in that Manifesto to the people of South Africa.
