Nottingham City Council's new chief executive says there is a 'lot of work going on' to make progress on the Broad Marsh project

Nottingham City Council's new boss hopes 'investment will flow' into the Broad Marsh as uncertainty remains about how the derelict remains of the old shopping centre will be developed. Sajeeda Rose says the council has fully accepted that it will not be able to deliver the Broad Marsh project alone and that there will be a degree of reliance on the private sector to finish it.

Work is well underway on the Green Heart element of the Broad Marsh plan, which is seeing land once housing half the old shopping centre being carpeted in plants and natural features. Other approved plans will see some empty units in the area being transformed into a medical hub, run by the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust .

Yet funding remains elusive for the remaining half of the shopping centre, where plans include new homes, shops and leisure venues. The project was the subject of several failed Levelling Up Fund bids, but Nottingham City Council's new chief executive says further details should be set out soon on how it can be realised.Ms Rose, officially confirmed as the new chief executive on Monday , said: "We've got a lot of work going on at the moment with partner organisations.

"Our ability to be able to realise on our own isn't there anymore, we know that, we've been quite honest about that, hence those honest conversations with partner agencies. Delivery, whether it's new homes or commercial space, will only really come from the private sector." The current vision for the remaining undeveloped sections of the Broad Marsh includes 1,000 new homes, 20,000 square metres of office, commercial and leisure space and the creation of 2,500 jobs. The NHS' community diagnostic centre will see patients being able to access MRI scans, CT scans, ECGs and other medical procedures under one roof.
