And while it may seem like a natural reaction to cling on to your personal possessions in an emergency, aviation experts have warned the death toll —Unfortunately,is just the latest incident in which lives have been lost by the disturbing trend among panicking passengers.Passengers carry hand luggage off the Russian Aeroflot plane that caught fire at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport.
A safety study by the USA’s National Transportation Safety Board found 36 flight attendants interviewed after evacuations reported passengers carrying bags was their biggest impediment. “Now this trend in recent years of passengers in a life-threatening situation taking their own baggage with them is one of the greatest dilemmas facing cabin crew and airlines that we’ve had for a long time,” shePassengers walk away from a burning American Airlines jet that aborted takeoff and caught fire on the runway at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport in 2016.
It might sound like a tough ask, but incredible footage of one of these tests on YouTube shows how a Airbus A380 can evacuate more than 800 passengers in under 90 seconds. Basically, those involved in the test evacuation may not know exactly what’s going to happen beforehand, but they’re better prepped for what to do than a normal chaos of a real-life emergency situation.
What should we do when somebody is blocking people, preventing others to save themselves
All those who grabbed their luggage should be arrested and charged as they caused people to lose their life. I hope they realise if it wasn't for them most people would've survived.
The Airlines' practices of overcrowding and bag fees add to this 'gotta get my own' attitude.
Instead of blaming survivors for picking up stuff, maybe you should look at the emergency personnel who were a complete no-show for how long after the plane exploded into flame? Those people had no help at all when it mattered most.
What the fuck?
Kevin_Fong Install a system that automatically locks the overhead lockers in the event of a cabin depressurisation or if the flight crew flick the necessary switch?
Selfish act killed others
Make the overheads automatically locked and unlocked from the pilots cabin.
Anyone involved in an emergency evacuation of an aircraft with their luggage which results in delays and ultimately death of others, should be charged with murder/manslaughter
People who take their luggage during an emergency evacuation should be arrested. Something needs to be done. People are now dead because of their selfish act.
Emergency exiting should make it illegal to exit with anything else than your person: don’t do so and get arrested. And possibly charged with manslaughter.
Just like smoking in the latrines, carrying out your luggage in an emergency evacuation should be a federal offence.
How many people couldn’t escape because these people blocked the only aisle to collect their bags from the overheads
F people, that suitcase could have been a person!
