President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated Mozambique’s President-Elect, Daniel Chapo and his party, Frelimo for a successful election run.

Ramaphosa’s remarks are based on the preliminary election results released by the Mozambique Electoral Commission which showed that Chapo had gained 70% of votes.However, the Mozambican Constitutional Council is expected to validate and proclaim the electoral results in the next 14 days. Presidential spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya says President Rampahosa has noted that these elections are historic since they were held 32 years following the signing of the General Peace Agreement , which brought an end to the civil war and introduced multi-party democracy in Mozambique.
