The gender pay gap is the average difference between the remuneration of working men and women, and the latest PayScale report potentially signals a worsening of the issue. When compared to PayScale’s previous 2012 study, the new report indicates that although the median peak earning ages have risen for both women and men — to 39 years and 48 years, respectively — the overall gap has widened. It would now take women another two years to catch up with men’s peak earnings compared to 2012.

Health care, sales, life sciences and management were among the other fields to record significant disparities in peak earnings between men and women.Among the root causes for the gap noted by PayScale was the disparity between starting salaries for men and women, and the time typically spent out of the workplace by women when starting a family.

The report, which comes as part of PayScale’s ongoing research into the gender pay gap, said the findings highlight the continued significance of the issue and the work that remains to be done, particularly given that women typically have a longer life expectancy.

When you average all of womens' salaries and compare it to the average of all mens' salaries, then of course they get paid less. Because they choose more hospitality jobs than men, which pay less.

My wife, 3 yrs younger, has consistently made 30k more per year than me. So what?

Please tell me where the side by side wage gaps are? Gov't jobs, Union Jobs? sales jobs? ... Please tell me in 2019 ...what jobs specifically pay more to men than women doing the same job at the same company?

Deceptive headline. '11 years before' because most women stop working before men so their 'peak' is much lower... ... hence the discrepancy.

Sorry but gender doesn't matter anymore remember? Women can just say they are men and get paid the same. Your rules Lefties. Need a tissue?

Dis porn?

Absolute BS!

The true test for human progress, in my view, is not the achievement or failure of a man. The true test is the desire to improve oneself; that is the true test.

Self-selection. My sister had many opportunities to rise in her software company but avoided management because she didn't like the pressure. She then chose to stay home with the kids. She brought down the average. Sexist discrimination in the workplace is pretty rare.

What do men earn at age 44 earn? Let’s make valid comparisons, not use doctored data

There is no pay gap. It’s all statistics skewed different ways

I wonder if has anything to do with lifestyle choices. Does average include women who choose not to stay in the workforce? If so, then this is meaningless. Also needs to account for chosen professions. Apples to apples. Not saying gender gap isn't real. Accurate info needed.
