Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi refutes merger rumors with PDP and NNPP, urges political unity against APC in 2027.

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has denied rumors of a merger agreement with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP). Obi made this statement during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday morning, addressing the state of the nation. He clarified that no pact has been formed with other parties.

Instead, he urged all Nigerians who support a better future to unite in 2027 and challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC), whom he accused of mismanaging the country's resources. Obi also voiced concerns about Nigeria's security situation, condemning the senseless deaths caused by banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings. He further criticized the pervasive corruption and the escalating cost of governance under the APC administration, leading to a significant increase in public debt. In the 2023 presidential election, Bola Tinubu of the APC emerged victorious with 8,794,726 votes. Atiku Abubakar of the PDP came second with 6,984,520 votes, while Obi secured third place with 6,101,533 votes. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP placed fourth, winning in his home state of Kano with 1,496,687 votes. Notably, both Obi and Kwankwaso were previously members of the PDP before the last election but left due to ideological differences. Rumors of a possible merger between the three opposition candidates ahead of the 2027 elections have been circulating
