As the future of work changes, the way in which we ready our workforce must change along with it. There are currently 78 million Americans who are unemployed, underemployed, or dislocated, many of whom will remain as such without federal aid or assistance. Yesterday, Kamala Harris introduced The 21st Skills Act, a bill that if passed would provide funding to Americans most in need.
The 21st Century Skills Act would establish Upskill Accounts for workers who are unemployed, underemployed or make less than the median salary in their state, who wish to further their skills and education. Upskill Accounts give each recipient up to $8,000, to be used for certificate programs, apprenticeships, and other similar job training opportunities.
