In 2015, the Northern Territory government announced it had awarded Chinese company Landbridge a 99-year lease of Darwin Port for $500 million. Mr Champion says the government used a “narrow, commercial lense” when making its decision to lease the port.
The Labor backbencher told Sky News that despite China's reservations, it’s “sensible now we have a deteriorating international environment to take this port into national hands”. The government says it has no plans to buy the port back, but One Nation Leader Pauline Hanson has expressed “grave concerns” about China's growing influence in the Pacific. “One day they’d love to have their hands on Australian, and they’re slowly taking it not by stealth but by cunning,” she said.
Libs wanted to sell off our electrical grid. SA libs sold part of their network to China. And where is PHON on this ? Supporting the liberals.
