A new paper shows that these firms are lobbying for environmental regulations in a calculated bet that their competitors will be worse off

When the Alberta government rolled out a carbon tax plan in 2015, the province witnessed a strange sight: Oil company executives flanking premier Rachel Notley as she announced a policy that would cost their companies a ton of money.

“Alcoa’s support for cap and trade was more than a simple public relation campaign,” writes Kennard. The company was involved in several other environmental initiatives and engaged in a full-throated lobbying effort to get the bill passed. Why did it do it? One clue came when Alcoa’s direct competition lobbied hard against the bill and publicly threatened to move to Mexico if it passed.

Same reason social conservatives do it . For smoke and mirrors. Polls show people care for environmental concerns. Just do not want pay the price . Like everything in live

Why would you think a company would do anything out of benevolence? Profit minded corps are very predictable because they always do things that benefit their profits. This is a good thing. Governments on the other hand don’t need to be profitable and will do things for power.

How one Calgary company turns CO2 into soap with its micro-carbon capture technologyCleanO2 uses chemistry to reduce emissions from furnaces and water heaters while also producing marketable chemical products So if i fart at the same time i use this soap, does that make me 'carbon neutral' FakeNews CarbonCapture scam, which Harper has already spent $ 1.7 B on. It is a subsidy to oil industry in reality. This is a niche use of CCS, it cant be used for the whole planet I wonder what could possibly create the incentive for a company to come up with this sort of technology…
