Striking Rand West Municipality employees may lose jobs

Workers affiliated to trade unions SAMWU and IMATU have been on strike for close to a month demanding salary increases.

Municipal Manager Themba Goba stay they are left with no other choice but to fire the workers for participating in what he calls an illegal strike. “Management has resolved that in the interest of service delivery and stability in the municipality to announce the following. All SAMWU and IMATU striking workers are dismissed with immediate effect. Management will be issuing individual letters from the 30th of September 2019,” says Goba.
