The mother of a severely disabled child who directly challenged the Finance Minister live on radio has claimed the government “discount” anyone with a disability.
The mum of two strongly criticised how the government assess families who are struggling financially.“It’s the same with any disability, you’re discounted by the government. “If I pretended I was single and separated, they’d give me everything but why should I have to do that? She outlined to the Minister that she receives a €309 monthly domiciliary care allowance but it’s no sooner in her pocket before it’s spent.
“If I was to hand Willow over to the hospital to where she attends, how much would that cost the State?“There’s ways around everything but I’m not going to do that, it should be fair.”
