The big question this raises is how can a brand build and sustain trust when short-term actions to stay afloat may undermine long-term support. In April 2020, the brand trust research team at the Gustavson School of Business mobilized a followup study to our annual January 2020 report to gauge changes in consumer trust after COVID-19.

Air Canada was also quick to implement protective travel measures, such as blocking off middle seats and ensuring that travellers were socially distanced aboard flights while imposing a mask mandate. The company wasn’t only protecting its employees, it was also showing care toward the public by minimizing risks to travellers. These are all actions that build trust.
