“It really is that transformation and evolution of WeedMD,” interim Entourage chief executive George Scorsis said.
The new name is a play on the marijuana industry term “entourage effect,” the theory that various cannabis compounds work together to create unique effects. The cannabis industry has seen a recent flurry of mergers and acquisitions as the sector continues to mature after Canada’s legalization of recreational pot in 2018.
“It’s about us carving out our position in the industry . . . What we ultimately want to do is be able to drive and deliver good quality products that generates high margins for us,” he said.
