They do not want to feel inferior to their women through exposure of their earning less than wives. This is again a man's superiority complex. A man cannot accept that he is inferior to woman in any respect. Therefore even in workplaces a woman boss is always a subject of gossip.

Why do women lie about being oppressed in Western Society ?
