Amber House, Jacksonville’s first safe house for LGBTQ+ youth, opened its doors roughly six months ago with the goal of giving a foundation to at-risk, homeless youth.
This expansion would create a community of a seven-unit mobile home park. Stowers said they’re also hoping to expand Amber House to two or three more homes, possibly as soon as next year. According to Stowers, the property needed for the community is already owned by the nonprofit. The residents are brought to Amber House through a referral process and are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
