The operator and his brother were charged with continuing bad bus practices after the initial indictment, authorities said.

who was previously indicted for using unqualified drivers and misleading public school districts, was facing new offenses this week for allegedly continuing to do so through another company with the help of his brother, even after he was originally charged, officials said.

The new indictment also brought charges against Shelim’s brother, Jwel Khalique, 44, of Totowa, and American Star Transportation LLC, a bus company that inherited most, if not all, of the buses, equipment, assets, and employees belonging to the company originally under investigation, A-1 Elegant Tours Inc., the office said. The original bus company was charged in June 2020.

A-1 Elegant Tours was also accused of using toll roads regulated by the Turnpike Authority and routinely failing to pay the tolls, amassing an overdue bill exceeding $75,000, authorities said. Shelim Khalique, and A-1′s manager, Henry Rhodes, were initially charged on June 25, 2020 in an investigation by the office, the New Jersey State Police, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, and Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, officials said.
