Earlier reports indicated that four learners were still hospitalised, but three have since been discharged.
The affected learners, from Rapelego Primary School in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, were hospitalised on Monday after consuming chocolate sold by a Grade 7 learner. The chocolate was allegedly past its expiration date. Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says, “The chocolates were taken by health officials to conduct necessary tests and they should be in a position to then share with all relevant authorities including parents on the results of the chocolates. But we have dispatched our psycho-support team to go to the school especially tomorrow – now that most of them have been discharged – in the event that they come to school and they need to be supported.
