The department’s spokesperson, Steve Bhengu, says the suspensions come as they implement new measures to encourage whistle-blowing.
“The suspensions relate to contract work at four KwaZulu-Natal hospitals, valued at R79 million, for the eradication of asbestos. The probe will examine the rate of completion, value for money, and work done in relation to invoices issued. This decisive action underscores MEC Meyer’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity within the department. The MEC also extends his appreciation to whistle-blowers who come forward with critical information and reaffirms his commitment to protect and support those who aid the department in fighting corruption and wrongdoing,” adds Bhengu.
