Trucking companies said they would not tolerate attacks on their drivers, following the torching of 17 trucks in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend.

Durban – Trucking companies said on Monday they would not tolerate attacks on their drivers, following the torching of 17 trucks in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend.

“Our priority is our people, we will not tolerate an attack on our people, meaning our drivers. They are a key asset to this country and have by far the worst kind of living conditions daily on the road, which we have tried very hard to improve,” Hassan said. Local drivers have allegedly been attacking the vehicles and threatening foreign drivers, who they accuse of taking jobs meant for locals. The disgruntled drivers also accuse truck company owners of hiring foreigners over locals.

A database of drivers was also to be established, said Zikalala, which would offer companies a large pool of employees from which to hire.

Truck companies must exclusively employ South Africans only.......drivers can't sit back while their bread is given to foreign nationals (who are favourites of employers because of their very cheap rates) South Africans have nowhere to go! This is their country!!!

Shoot to kill!

Recent arson and deadly rock throwing attacks around TouwsRiver, had nothing to do with Xenophobia, since victims were SA drivers.. Looters Criminal thugs also see an opportunity to pounce on innocent TruckDrivers.

Govt inability to curb this type of anarchy on a major SA National road, one of the busiest in the country, speaks volumes about the capabilities of SAPoliceService DoTransport deptoflabour HomeAffairsSA SSA SALTruckers

Attacking of drivers is wrong. The companies on the other side knows what they need to do. They need to do the right thing.
