Leasing Darwin Port to a Chinese company for 99 years was a “very bad decision” and should have been kept in Australian hands, Opposition Leader AlboMP says.

Leasing Darwin Port to a Chinese company for 99 years was a “very bad decision” and should have been kept in Australian hands, Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says. “We do care in this country about issues of sovereign risk,” Mr Albanese said on Wednesday. “At a time where they talk about protection of our borders and a whole range of issues, the fact the government sold off our northernmost port, which is a very strategic asset, I believe that should’ve been maintained in public hands.

The Northern Territory government controversially leased the port to Chinese company Landbridge in 2015 for $500 million. The perks of investment in Darwin, however, outweigh the security risks attached, Sky News Reporter Matt Cunningham said. Speaking to Political Editor David Speers, Mr Cunningham said Landbridge has poured money back into the local economy, despite scarce investment in the region. “They’re spending $200 million building a six-star luxury hotel down near the port.

AlboMP Sadly though where was the outrage when it was happening. It’s just the horse has bolted politics.

kirsty_howey AlboMP Ask that goose you employ about it. Adam Giles.

AlboMP Break the lease pay the penalty just get back control and ownership into Australian Governances

AlboMP The liberals would sell their own mothers if they could.

AlboMP About 3 years to late toco plain now. Typical labor politicians.

AlboMP Finally Albo you have said something that makes sense. Stop all the politically correct nonsense and start standing of Australians in areas that matter like employment, wages, Australian business growth, border security, national security etc etc

AlboMP Wow, common sense from Labor.... A bit late now for you though Albo...

AlboMP What about our food/farm indusrty -Chinese owned. I've been saying this for a while-we are being invaded by China via financial warfare, no weapons nessesary, they have taken over already. Look at our Uni's, walk around the CBD, It's NOT multicultral anymore - just Chinese.

AlboMP They wont need 99 years to take us over.

AlboMP Now THAT I agree with. Who the hell was the dimwit that leased our ports to the most dangerous Communist regime in the world? Who is dumb enough to do that?

AlboMP Would China lease one of its ports to a private foreign owned company? The Territory Gov believes that new trade opportunities will be created. Were developing new trade deals part of the contract? This is a failure in Australia’s leadership & foreign ownership policy

AlboMP And? And? You have a plan? Care to share it.

AlboMP In 50 years all of AUSTRALIA will be sold to China!

AlboMP 😂😂😂 did he just find out about this lease?

AlboMP A Blinding Flash of the Obvious! And a Bit Late!

AlboMP That seems a bit racist Albo. Though multiculturalism was a good thing?

AlboMP It's about time something was said.

AlboMP Yes, so what is going to be done about reversing this decision? auspol qldpol

AlboMP Which of these surrendered Australia's national sovereignty? A. Chinese lease is 100% bound by Australian laws B. 2,500 US troops in Darwin under direct Washington command & NOT SUBJECT to Australian laws

AlboMP Remember the defense forces giving it the OK at the time, along with federal ministers, AGAIN Australia is a joke.

AlboMP Would there be such an uproar if we'd sold it to the yanks ? auspol

AlboMP The world must be ending i am agreeing with Albo!

margelliott6 AlboMP AlboMP doubling down on his racism ozcrimenews

AlboMP Too little too late it’s all done now.

AlboMP Leadership 👍

AlboMP Really? Huh. Who'd a thought.

AlboMP OMG - Albo is saying something I actually agree with... Now, if he can look at Turnbull's investments & exactly what Huawei bought with Bracks & Downer. TheGreatAwakeningWorldwide
