Maricopa County Manager Joy Rich and Chief Medical Examiner Jeffrey Johnston both surpassed the $300,000 annual earnings mark in 2021, according to a list of the highest-paid employees provided to the Phoenix Business Journal.

Johnston, who was named the county's chief medical examiner in 2013, was ranked sixth among the county's highest-paid employees in 2020 with total wages of $263,910. His 2021 tally of $307,071 moved him up to second on the latest list, representing a year-over-year gain of 16%.
