What has to happen to save pro baseball in Oakland? Here's the to-do list for the city and the team.

The bottom of the ninth inning is rapidly approaching for the prospect of a new East Bay ballpark for the Oakland Athletics.

But Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said in late October that he’s “no longer optimistic” that the A’s will remain in Oakland. Manfred last year gave A’s owner John Fisher and President Dave Kaval to shop around in Las Vegas for a ballpark site, which they did — very publicly — at the same they urged Oakland to approve a new stadium deal by the end of 2022.

The city has proposed an infrastructure tax district. The district, promising more than a half-billion dollars over 45 years, would provide the collateral enabling city to sell bonds to pay for things like roads, sewers and water lines as well as affordable housing subsidies. The estimated county taxes from the Howard Terminal site would be more than $350 million over 45 years, compared to $70,000 a year that the county now collects from Howard Terminal.

Calling the HT proposal privately financed is more than a stretch. This requires 100's of millions of tax dollars to provide John Fisher the profits he demands. And there is no guarantee this won't be Mt Davis all over again.

you forgot... reDesignHT

I love the A's but Oakilland doesn't deserve them
