Some 17,369 students in public universities are studying business, administration, and law, compared to the 13,990 in courses on engineering, manufacturing, and construction.

A total of 118,143 people applied for university places for the 2023-2024 academic session, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

PETALING JAYA: More university students enrolled for business-related studies in public universities this year compared to traditional engineering programmes, according to the higher education ministry. In a written Dewan Rakyat reply, higher education minister Khaled Nordin said 17,369 students have been enrolled for courses on business, administration, and law, while 13,990 were in courses on engineering, manufacturing, and construction.

Similarly, more than 13,000 were in liberal arts courses, compared to 7,000 in science. Khalid said 7,839 students were in arts and humanities and 5,789 in social sciences, journalism, and communications, while 7,237 were in courses in the natural sciences, mathematics, and statistics. Khaled said 74.24% of applicants were approved for bachelor’s degree studies, of the total of 118,143 applicants for the 2023-2024 academic session.
