The Lagos State Government, in the early hours of Wednesday, shut down the popular Alade Market, in Onigbongbo Local Council Area of Ikeja, for flouting environmental laws following a series of abatement notices.

The closure followed the directive by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab.Adeshina said the enforcement was carried out by the officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency, LAWMA, in collaboration with Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, LAGESC/Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI.

According to him ”As directed by Honorable Commissioner for The Environment and Water Resources, MOE&WR, Tokunbo Wahab,enforcement operatives from LAWMA and KAI/ LAGESC in a joint operation on Wednesday morning sealed Alade Market situated in Onigbongbo LCDA.Recall that the ministry has embarked on closure of many popular markets in the state by the government over environmental infractions.

Some of the affected markets include: Oyingbo, Alayabiagba, Mile-12, Alaba International, ASPAMDA, Ladipo, Oke-Odo, among others.
