A Dublin waste collection company is under fire for some harsh new measures it’s set to implement from next week.

Panda Waste, which serves 150,000 household in Dublin and in parts of Leinster, will be fining customers up to €25 for putting rubbish into the wrong bins, according to new contracts distributed to customers. Other features of the new contract are extra charges for hazardous waste, a €15 fine on missed direct debit payments and a charge of €30 for cleaning the bin at the end of a contract. One TD has called for immediate regulation on the waste disposal industry.

“Panda as a bin company is giving themselves more power to enter a premises on a property than an Garda Síochána – and if that doesn’t ring alarm bells about an industry setting its own rules nothing will,” said Dublin West TD jack Chambers.“A cereal box or water bottle accidentally disposed of could end up costing families a big fine.

“We all want to encourage recycling but to charge people in such and unfair and punitive way I think will be extremely difficult for families.”Documentary about the murder of Grace Millane will air tonightMinimum wage is reportedly set to increase on Budget DayMet Éireann pinpoints day temperatures are set to soar this week
