A small independent business has been left reeling after losing 90,000 followers from its social media as Facebook removed its page following a hack.
“Losing 90,000 followers is not nice because we rely an awful lot on that, we get online orders in every day and we built that up from 2007. Gareth says they have been left feeling helpless, with social media giant Facebook, owned by umbrella company Meta, unable to bring their account live again. He has set up a new account which has gained a few thousand new followers already.“You feel helpless. Facebook is part of a massive company and I feel as if there hasn’t been enough support for businesses that end up in situations like this.
"Meta don’t take phone calls in person. There seems to be no direct point of contact but endless diversions to default support links where customers seem to be running in circles."In the ever increasingly difficult and demanding world of business particularly the digital age in which we are living, companies at the forefront such as these large social media digital platforms needs to stand up and provide the support for the consumer that platforms such as Facebook clearly demand.
"This is an industry-wide issue and scammers are using increasingly sophisticated methods to defraud people in a range of ways including email, SMS and offline," the company said.
