Closing the border with Mexico could bring the auto industry to a halt, experts say. Roughly 37% of the imported parts used on US-made vehicles are imported from Mexico.

— and there are few places where that would be felt more immediately than in the American auto industry.

“It would be a major disruption” if a border shutdown were to last more than a couple of days, said David Cole, director-emeritus of the Center for Automotive Research. ....through their country and our Southern Border. Mexico has for many years made a fortune off of the U.S., far greater than Border Costs. If Mexico doesn’t immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States throug our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING.....The president’s threat is the latest move in an ongoing battle that began when Trump was still a candidate.

Were Trump to move in the coming weeks it could hit automakers at a particularly vulnerable time, spring traditionally bringing the industry’s strongest sales. Since NAFTA came into force on Jan. 1, 1994, automakers have broadly integrated their U.S., Mexican and Canadian operations. At the same time, Mexico has evolved from an industry backwater to become one of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers. The NAFTA agreement has contributed to that growth, as have the many other free trade agreements the country has negotiated. Low labor costs are the other contributing factor.

Thanks to NAFTA

Good they shouldnt have any companys down there and they wouldnt have to worry.

Ivanca must not have any pantents there

Just shut it down and we'll see what a well thought out plan you have. I'm hearing the beep beep beep again of a wild ass statement from POTUS getting walked back. Point and laugh.

Huh...almost like you should be producing those parts in the states

Looks like they're going to be looking for some manufacturing in the US now.

The correct response to this stupid threat from realDonaldTrump is not analysis but more of a simple 'no you're not, you idiot' But media does continue to profit from the monster they made.

Thus creating more economic hardships for those in states like Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee that voted for the dotard. 😂

Make them in the US!! Duh, freaking, duh!

Yea but if he does it how else can he blame the obama administration and once refixed how can he then get credit for undoing what he did...ugh people arent as smart as he is or his base!?

Just out of curiosity, where do the other 63% of parts come from? Cuz I'm still kinda moved by the whole 'Made in U.S.' thing?

Sounds like a huge potential to increase made in America ... imagine all those manufacturing jobs in your state(s) as opposed to a hostile foreign nation in USA tong your country with cheap labour, drugs crime and human human trafficking ...

My guess is car companies will regret taking advantage of low wage, uncontrolled polluting countries like Mexico to line the pockets of the wealthy. realDonaldTrump shows more concern for Americans than big corporations! This should be a good thing? Bring back the jobs.

No one in the US cam make the wiring harness!!! We need to send a seal team to Mexico to steal the blueprints immediately!!

Come on Trump, do it

You do realize that means 37% of the jobs to make & assemble those parts have been outsourced right

We have plenty of cars have you driven on any freeway in the USA?

Amazing how these zombies follow Trumps every word and dont understand the economic consequences of his ridiculous ideas. He doesn't have a clue as to what hes doing because he doesn't understand basic ideas.

And Mexican brick weed

Where I get my Fentanyl?

Not good to drink the Mexican water but apparently it’s great to carry it.

You're actually asking Trump to look at and consider the facts and how many people will be harmed by his actions?

What's your point? Is there a car crisis in the United States?
