The proposed new Asda store in Park Royal, north-west London, will include up to 1,500 homes - although none of them will come with a parking space

Supermarket giant Asda is moving into the housing market, with plans to create a new ‘town’ on the site of one of its largest stores.

Asda said it hopes other businesses would also move onto the 10-acre site, including shops, restaurants and health facilities. It is understood Barratt London will acquire the freehold to Asda’s Park Royal site, although the price has not been confirmed. One resident said: 'The proposed development is obscene. Grossly out of keeping with the town and setting a dreadful precedent for future schemes.
