A 33-year-old accountant in Malaysia lost RM90,000 to a WhatsApp investment scam after being tricked into joining a fake group chat posing as a legitimate investment company. The victim, who works in a private company, was contacted on September 17 by an unknown individual and persuaded to join the group. She invested the money in four separate transactions between September 26 and December 12 but realized she had been deceived when she didn't receive the promised profits. She reported the incident to the police, who are investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

He said the victim realised she had been cheated when she did not receive the profits as promised and lodged a police report yesterday, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. “The public is advised not to make any investments without Bank Negara Malaysia approval, except to individuals or any companies and financial institutions approved by BNM.
