The Soweto-born Kwaito star, real name Victor Bogopane, died at his home in Fairlands, north of Johannesburg on Thursday.
Doc Shebeleza was hospitalised in December when he underwent surgery and was due to undergo a second procedure on Monday next week.“He was somebody who had been a member of SAMRO since 1992 from the tender age of 19 years. Based on the royalties that SAMRO has obviously generated over the years, he has earned from just over 320 songs, which have been used locally and internationally.
Shebeleza gained recognition with his 1996 debut album ‘S’Kumfete’ and made a significant impact on the Kwaito genre, inspiring subsequent artists.
