Exchange sheds new light on how the spy service can keep records about ordinary Canadians

Meghan McDermott, a lawyer with the B.C Civil Liberties Association, holds a few redacted pages from the thousands disclosed by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, during a news conference in Vancouver, on July 8, 2019.Canada’s spy service had interactions with oil industry officials and also kept tips it received about environmentalist groups, according to classified documents released Monday by a court order.

The B.C. Civil Liberties Association was cleared to release the documents from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service by a Federal Court ruling. The civil liberties group, which posted documents online and dubbed them the Protest Papers, says thousands of pages of heavily redacted documents generated by Canada’s spy agency prove critics of the failed Enbridge Northern gateway pipeline project were being monitored.

John Townsend released a statement Monday that said CSIS investigates activities that fall within the definition of “threats” to the security of Canada, and the definition of threats, as outlined in the CSIS Act, specifically excludes lawful protest and dissent. "Having reviewed carefully the totality of the evidence submitted to me ... I find that at no time did the Service [CSIS] share information with members of the petroleum industry concerning the 'targeted groups' referred to by the complainant," wrote Yves Fortier, a member of the watchdog body.

And now Alberta’s review of these groups and the dark money will get to the bottom of what is really going on.

Like the Liberals said; this is a climate emergency! Therefore no individual or group are not above the law. Canada is under attack!

These “environmental” groups knowingly and willingly accepted foreign money in order to destroy Canada’s economy. They should all be rotting in a prison cell

These Canadian protest terrorists need to be called out for there crimes. Many Canadians have their jobs, houses and families. All because the outside oil industry are taking much need revenue from our hospitals, schools and infrastructure.

Good!

She looks totally bias
