The feds are reportedly looking into Tesla's Model S battery cooling system

into the cooling system, which found that starting in 2012, Tesla knowingly installed systems with the potential to leak coolant into the battery. Those leaks, in turn, could cause the battery to go dead or leave a residue that could contribute to a fire.

Neither Tesla nor NHTSA responded to Business Insider's request for comment in time for this article's publication. One employee described the part as "hanging by a thread" during August of 2012, according to internal documents reviewed by Business Insider.

This is terrible news. I can’t imagine a company would knowingly do this. Say what we want about Jetta and Diesel-Gate, but that never put customers in danger. Have any died because of this?

Smash and grab. Friends/family of Feds short a stock. Feds publicize investigation of said stock. Stock tanks. Short sellers get payday. Immediately go long the stock. Feds end investigation without damaging charges, fines, etc. Stock rebounds. Insiders win. Buy island.
