American Airlines and JetBlue announced a sprawling new alliance on Thursday, teaming up in an effort to become more competitive in the valuable Northeast market.earlier this year, shortly before the coronavirus pandemic caused travel demand to collapse.
The airlines will codeshare on certain flights, allowing passengers to seamlessly book and transfer between the two airlines. The move gives American customers in New York and Boston greater connectivity through the US on JetBlue's domestic network, while JetBlue customers can connect to international destinations serviced by American.
"Both airlines' customers value access to more destinations, whether it's a JetBlue customer who wants more direct access to South America from New York, or an American customer who wants more robust service to Florida," Vasu Raja, American Airlines head of routes and network, said in a press release.
