“If anyone is looking for investment advice, don’t do what I did'

Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien has confirmed that he made an investment of €30,000 into a real estate investment fund in 2008.O’Brien said that he lost 50% of the investment which he sold on for €15,000 at the time.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Monday, he said: “If anyone’s looking for investment advice, don’t do what I did."“I lost 50%, I tell you, of it at the time. There’s nothing else to it, it was a standard life product. You declare any investments or anything like that, any shareholdings, over a certain level and I rightly I did that.”The Mail on Sunday reported over the weekend that the Minister had invested money into a global REIT ran by Standard Life Assurance.

Minister for Housing invested €30,000 into real estate investment fund | JOE.ieMinister for Housing invested €30,000 into real estate investment fund The man who couldn’t make money off the surest scam in history. A FF man at that. A Housing Minister at that... Wait, why’s he Housing Minister again? 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ The bizarre thing is he felt the need to say actually he declared it, it's akin to saying 'by the way I complied with the law' as if its a good thing. Its a good indication of how fast and loose they play with the rules. If he had made €500,000 instead of loosing €15,000 would it be in the public domain I don’t think so
