The latest move to distance from 'self-driving.'

; hello, Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association!

Tesla sells a feature called “Full Self-Driving,” which is a beta version of an advanced driver-assist system that controls some of the car’s functions on local roads but still requires human supervision. In contrast, autonomous vehicles are cars that can operate on public roads without any human intervention or supervision.

The association recently called on all stakeholders to clearly distinguish between AVs and driver-assist to boost consumer trust and understanding. AVIA advocates for autonomous vehicles, which perform the entire driving task. AVs do not require human operators, not even to serve as a backup driver; the people or packages in the vehicle are just passengers or freight.

Should be called assisted driving

If the recent Tesla earnings call with elonmusk is anything to go by this article won’t age well when Full Self Driving means Full Self Driving later this year…

Everyone should call their software beta to free themselves of blame just like tesla.

elonmusk will bankrupt Tesla with his hype. As bodies continue to pile up, prison sentences will start coming down heavier and heavier, Tesla “shadow” settlements will start hitting 100s of millions, class actions will follow, regulation won’t be far behind. Good luck

This is moving the goal post again. The current state of AV development all but guarantees there won’t be a single autonomous vehicle (at least in the way they envision them) anywhere anytime soon. Their current approach would require thousands of innocent people dying needlessly

Ironic, since the ones calling it that are really less FSD than the ones not calling it that.

I feel like a tech company shouldn't be this disconnected from reality.

wow 😮

The term 'self-driving' is such a big lie at the current state that it turned from an asset to a liability.

Because they are all failing, only Tesla is making progress.

Navya ree to the M 💥

they are abandoning it? maybe waymo did. look and hear every single company in this space. they use it on there twitter, web pages, speeches, marketing materials.

Disapointing😞😞😞😞

Because their technology & teslas advancement in the segment convinced them that they can't reach to anything above level 2 autonomy, so they just abandoned it. Look at where Tesla FSD beta 10.9 is & where are others.

It's funny how all these companies were originally copying Tesla and now they're talking ish about them when most of there self driven tech isn't on the same level as tesla How about trying to work together instead of tear each other down

Soon they will also abandon the business as well... its just a matter of time for all of them to realise that what they are doing is pointless

Elon be like

of course they did...tesla is the least favorite child of the industry.

Did they finally go with Murdermobiles?

our railway company opening new daily flights! ok, almost flights - who cares? you'll ride in a almost in same seat!

Just call them Autobots.

A sure sign of technological failure is the introduction of word games to take the place of actual progress.

? Tesla uses the term autopilot
