Conservative Party chairman Oliver Dowden has resigned after the party slumped to two by-election defeats.

were"the latest in a run of very poor results" and added:"We cannot carry on with business as usual."

He is the first Cabinet minister to fall on his sword in the wake of the pressure swirling around the prime minister over the partygate scandal - which has already prompted 148 Tory MPs to oppose the PM in a vote of no confidence. The Conservatives saw a majority of 24,000, or more than 40%, evaporate in Honiton and Tiverton, where they were defeated by the Liberal Democrats - a record reversal for the party. They also lost Wakefield, the Red Wall seat snatched by the Tories in 2019, which went back to Labour.

Damaged reputation can only be mended by Boris resignation.

Here starts Oliver Dowdens attempt to become prime minister. God help us all

Great - KeepJohnsonIn -he's a vote-loser for the Conservatives, who can only sit and watch their ratings fall further. People have seen the man for who is (and always was) now. He treats being PM like being a newspaper editor, only interested in tomorrow's right-wing headlines.

So he's happy to accept all the scumbaggery when they're winning elections but not when they're losing, says everything you need to know about the Tories

Now let’s see if any of the cabinet have any balls or decency

They'll tolerate any moral failure, but seeing power slip away is unacceptable.

More need to follow and stop fooling themselves, people are sick of Boris, he had his chance to do good, he’s done bad. Clinging on for power is only making matters worse for the country.

We are watching the down fall of the Tory party. Let’s hope Boris stays!!

…to protect BorisJohnson from having to resign. Another sycophantic peon left in Johnson’s wake of destruction. JohnsonOut JohnsonOut150

Dear Fellow Brits, Failed politicians want to enslave you with their lies. But guesswork notions only lead to squandering your lives & prospects. Pls do the right thing - Look up your local mosque, make your way there & become Muslim. You won't regret it. Gods promise is true.

But they got all the big calls right! Fastest growing economy in the G7 to recover from Covid. And and Mr Speaker the biggest Vaccine roll out in the Galaxy!!! 😱

They can’t carry on with Boris I’m afraid - but who can lead them.

ruh roh...
