It's tough enough trying to stop Phoenix Suns' all-star shooting guard Devin Booker from scoring in an NBA game, but going past him on the Business Journal's latest ranking of the Valley's 29 highest-paid athletes is going to be virtually impossible.
Another Suns player, center Deandre Ayton, moved up to second on the highest-paid list courtesy of the Indiana Pacers. Ayton, a restricted free agent under the terms of the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, was signed to a four-year, $133 million offer sheet. The Suns, who had right of first refusal, matched the offer the same day.
Suns point guard Chris Paul was fourth in the list of the Valley's highest-paid athletes, with $28.4 million in salary coming this season. Rounding out the top five is Cardinals offensive tackle D.J. Humphries, who handled negotiations himself in coming to agreement on a $66 million, three-year extension. This year's take is $21.1 million.
