that the federal probe is actually in an “advanced stage” and, its sources say, is expected to spur a settlement within months.

At issue is whether the church’s investment firm heeded the disclosure rules for large money managers. Fines often result for such violations.the newspaper states, adding that “the agency sometimes closes investigations, even those that have reached an advanced stage, without taking formal enforcement action.”

To date, the IRS has taken no public action against the church since receiving that 2019 complaint. It’s unclear if the Senate panel will take up the topic. The SEC news, however, represents the first public indication that the church’s investment firm is under federal investigation. Declining to address any SEC inquiry, church spokesperson Doug Andersen told The Salt Lake Tribune early Saturday that the global faith “works with many government regulators to ensure we are in compliance with the law. We take those responsibilities very seriously.”The enduring drama surrounding the nearly 17 million-member global faith’s wealth exploded into the headlines in

Long ago, the Church used to issue financial statements for public inspection. That practice ended in 1959. Since that time, members have faithfully paid their tithes and offerings into a veritable black hole. The long held excuse is that disclosing such data would...

This is those in Political power trying to gain access to church funds, nothing more.

Why not indictments, arrest, and a public trial? Or is the Mormon mafia paying for this to go away? No wonder this state was/is okay with the last administration broad corruption!

Looking forward to the day when the IRS is abolished, and the LDS Church headquarters are moved to another place. SLC will be a bigger shit hole than San Francisco and New Orleans put together.

A more accurate headline would be 'pissed off, former employee throwing temper tantrum because they were fired'

He’s not a whistleblower he is just pissed he sucked at his job

The SEC goes about extorting their victims. All those extra dollars going into the Treasury or to the 'Justice' Department. I don't think they are the good guys here.

No settlement. Rax the church

Why do you have to give 10%? Why not come up with a budget and then have people give towards that and they can stop when they hit the goal. Obviously they have a little surplus

Again the Salt Lake Tribune is a trash new outlet. Plan and simple.

mafia since the start

The church continues to be wise with its finances and is prepared for the unspeakable events that we can hardly imagine like what is going on in Turkey and Syria. Sad that people can’t see that but hope their efforts to discredit the preparedness doesn’t impact that.

The Trib went the way of the non-profit but only reports news of the church hasbeenrag

“…expected to spur a settlement within months…. Quite the vague and bigoted headline specifically crafted to stir up more hate without facts. It’s sad that these are the tactics that media outlets are resorting to in a pathetic effort to get more sensationalized ratings.

I wonder how much the government will end up paying

And we will never hear anymore about it.

👏🏼👏🏼 you have just out played CNN

How traumatic for a corporation that lives off of the backs of God fearing people to have gotten caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Sending thoughts and prayers …

It's always good to get an outside view of things.

“if the worldwide church were transparent about its finances, a thing entirely within its power.” eff off you Gadianton solider. The church will do what it needs to to stay a float & if you have a problem cry me a rivier.

Working with = bribing

Trib's constant attaching of religion. Anti-religious agenda and bigotry masquerading as 'journalism.'

To whom should the church pay tithing for earnings from invested reserve funds? IMO, they should at least commit 10% to truly charitable causes, those 'charitable causes' in their own self-interest.

The bigoted Trib attacks the LDS faith daily. Anti-religious agenda, not journalism.

I(, ''Mister: Ryan `Ry Ry´ Ändrew Waugh'',) wiLL aLways hate '''Mister: oLLe `joseph robinette biden([,] junior)´ gunnar `joe biden´ westLing'''. Never respect ''Mister `oLLe gunnar westLing´''! Never respect ''Mister `oLof dänieL westLing´''! Never respect the Nazis!🎹Segregate!

Another typical sltrib post about how ‘Religion is the Opioid of the People.’ Marxist rhetoric all the same. They wanna figure out how to tax them into the ground and end wealth inequality by turning the USA into the former USSR under Stalin.

Keep recycling the same bullcrap. The punishment is always in the process. The conclusion is always the same. Not guilty.

The Church is corrupt.

LDS church should just buy the Sl trib, WaPo and ny times. Utah and America would prob be better off

SEC probes Mormon Church investment division's disclosures, report saysThe SEC is investigating whether the Mormon Church's investment division complied with disclosure rules, report says My guess is they didn't, but like for business, there is no consequences when it's religion. So I think there could be two possibilities… first, they don’t understand tax law clear, but this is of low possibility… second, they are trying to take advantage of imperfect law. The only way to solve such issue is to keep improving laws, that’s a long way… Hooray. Someone knocking on THEIR fecking door for a change 😂
